Personal History

Dr Houssam Younes, MD, is based in Abu Dhabi, where he currently works as chairman of the Heart and Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

Academic History

Dr Houssam Younes received his medical degree from Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty, Istanbul, Turkey. He then completed his surgical training at Baylor College of Medicine and The University of Texas Medical Branch where he held significant leadership roles and was awarded the Golden Scalpel and the Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award, recognising his outstanding and exemplary residency. He most recently completed his vascular surgery training with the Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center.

Career Overview

Dr Houssam Younes is currently chairman of the Heart and Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Younes was a vascular surgeon and assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, USA. During his tenure, he treated a wide spectrum of complex vascular diseases utilising new, minimally-invasive endovascular surgery technologies, including image-guided and catheter-based therapies and traditional open surgery techniques. He also served as a teaching faculty member at medical school, as well as general and vascular surgery residency programs.1

Dr. Younes’ clinical interest lies in complex endovascular therapies and hybrid approaches with the aim of treating a wider range of vascular diseases using a minimally-invasive approach. His research interests include limb salvage, dialysis access and endovascular surgery outcomes. He has presented multiple national presentations and has authored numerous published articles. His knowledge and proficiency in vascular surgery is recognized by receipt of the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery Peter Samuel’s Award, the Allastair Karmody Finalist Award and the Texas Society for Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Fellow Award.2
