Faculty Biographies

Catalin Toma
Director of Interventional Cardiology
Dr Catalin Toma is an interventional cardiologist at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), US. He currently serves as the Director of Interventional Cardiology for the Heart and Vascular Institute and the Director of the Interventional Fellowship at UPMC.
Dr Toma leads the Chronic Total Occlusion Programme and the Pulmonary Vascular Interventional Programme. He is also a key leader in the UPMC Structural Heart Programme, with a particular focus on the aortic and tricuspid space.
Dr Toma earned his medical degree from the Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iasi, RO. He then completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Following this, he undertook an internal medicine residency at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City and a fellowship in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at UPMC. In 2007, he joined the faculty at the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute.
